Crafting Your Final Draft: From the idea to the final cut
An intensive 5-day practical workshop designed for filmmaking enthusiasts who want to transform a personal experience or a raw idea into a fully realized short film. Blending discussions, practical exercises, screenwriting, and directing applications, this workshop provides participants with a solid foundation in film development and pre-production.
Workshop Outline & Journey
- Discovering the Story: The workshop begins by helping you dive into your personal experiences, thoughts, and emotions to uncover authentic stories. You will learn how to articulate your concept into a clear Logline and Synopsis, while exploring the vital connection between a filmmaker and their story.
- Character & World Building: Move into character development, learning how to create multi-dimensional characters with clear motivations and conflicts. You will also explore how genre and location serve the dramatic atmosphere and shape your film's universe.
- The Art of Screenwriting: Write scenes for a short film, experimenting with both dialogue-heavy and purely visual storytelling. These sessions include film analysis and discussions to deepen your understanding of story structure and cinematic language.
- Practical Directing: Dive into the director's toolkit. You will learn about actor management, rehearsing, and Découpage (shot listing/scene breakdown), as well as choosing the right lenses to evoke specific emotions. Practical camera tests will help translate your text into visuals.
- Pre-Production & Final Prep: The final day focuses on the pre-shooting script review, casting essentials, and the critical importance of pre-production planning to ensure your project runs smoothly both artistically and logistically.
The Takeaway: By the end of this workshop, you will have a comprehensive blueprint of the short filmmaking journey—from the spark of an idea to the final prep before the camera rolls—giving you the practical tools to launch your cinematic project with confidence.
